Many customers find that their bills are cheaper after switching to a water meter, and if you use less water after switching to a water meter, it makes environmental sense too.
Tenants
If you are a tenant with an agreement over a 6-month period, you do not need to gain permission from your landlord to have a water meter installed.
However, we would recommend you notify them.
If your lease is for less than 6 months, you must get written permission from your landlord.
Applying for someone else
If you look after somebody who needs extra support, you can apply for a meter for them.
The account holder needs to give consent for any changes to be made to their account. If they are unable to give consent, we can arrange to speak to another person with lasting power of attorney.
Contact us if you have lasting power of attorney. You can also find out how to make, register or end lasting power of attorney on the Welsh Government website.
Fitting your meter
If possible, we will fit the meter outside in an existing boundary box on the first visit.
However, if this isn’t possible, but the meter could be fitted outside with additional work (e.g., we have to install a boundary box), we’ll arrange a second visit. This may cause a slight delay in getting the meter fitted, but the work will be completed within 90 days of your original application.
If neither of these options are possible, we’ll check to see if the meter can be fitted inside your property with a radio device so that the meter can be read without having to come into your property. This may also be done on the first visit.
Ideally, we would like you to be present when we install the water meter to enable us to confirm you are happy with the meter location and standard of work carried out.
If we are unable to fit the meter externally (which is the preferred location) we would require you to be present in order to fit internally.
There are some properties, especially flats, where it might not be possible for us fit a water meter at all. If this is the case, you might be eligible for one of our assessed charge tariffs.
These are based on the type of home you live in (for example, flat or terraced / semi-detached / detached property).
If you live alone (where no children, partner or any other individual is living at the property), you may also be entitled to our Single Occupier Assessed Charge Tariff.
