Climate responsibilty

Responding to climate change is a priority for us. We explain in our 2020-2025 business plan how we will minimise the contribution of our operations to climate change and adapt our operations to the effects of climate change.

Climate change

We are working hard not only to reduce our contribution to climate change and to increase our renewable energy production, but also to ensure we are not negatively affected by climate change. Climate change is likely to result in hotter, drier summers, warmer, wetter winters and more extreme events such as heavy rainfall and storms. This presents us with both opportunities and threats.

We work to better understand how we may be affected by climate change and take actions to protect our services. These actions include protecting our assets and increasing the flexibility of our networks.

Our business plans for 2020 - 2025 explains more about what we’re doing about climate change.

Energy management

We meet our electricity demand from a combination of our own renewable energy sources and electricity imported from the national grid.

To reduce our costs and environmental impacts we pursue a twin strategy of using energy more efficiently and increasing our own renewable energy generation.

We track how we are doing in these two areas by measuring our net electricity consumption.

Our energy demand

We take a range of actions to reduce our energy consumption, including:

Our objective is to continually reduce our electricity consumption in line with the targets we set every year.
