Wonderful on Tap
Unlocking the wonder of Lake Vyrnwy
From the moment you arrive at Lake Vyrnwy, you will be immersed in this beautiful and historic part of Wales. With stunning views, woodland walks and rare wildlife, you can escape the hustle and bustle and take time to enjoy this wonderful and peaceful place.
We know just how much Vyrnwy means to the local community and all our visitors which is why we’re committed to nurturing and taking care of this special place for years to come. We have joined forces with RSPB Cymru and the local community on the Lake Vyrnwy Experience Project; a visionary project that will help the entire valley realise its full potential.
We have received initial support from the National Lottery Heritage Fund to develop plans for Vyrnwy that will look at everything from improved trails, an improved visitor centre to improving biodiversity and helping wildlife to thrive. Pulling together a plan that will benefit the local community, visitors and wildlife; meaning a better experience for everyone visiting this beautiful part of Wales.
We’re in the early stages of the project; developing plans so we can apply for a full grant early next year. Follow us on Facebook to keep up to date with this exciting project. @stwlakevyrnwy
RSPB Cymru Lake Vyrnwy Appeal
Lake Vyrnwy is home to a huge variety of wildlife and its unique mix of habitats means that it’s one of precious few places where you can still see meadow pipits, merlins, rare small pearl-bordered fritillary butterflies, wood warblers and pied flycatchers, all in the same place.
However, this rare wildlife has become increasingly threatened and all these species are now endangered or red-listed. RSPB Cymru are leading the charge and have launched an appeal to help this important conservation work.
You can learn more about their conservation work as well as see nature presenter Iolo Williams speak passionately about the area and information on how you can donate on the RSPB’s website.
There’s so much to see
In our area we have some truly stunning reservoirs surrounded by countryside and nature, which we welcome you to come and explore - whether on foot, by bike or on the water.
