Wonderful on Tap
Water saving tips
We all use water in different ways whether it’s watering plants, bathing the dog or brushing your teeth - you’d be surprised at how much water we use everyday. Our easy tips will help you on your way to save wonderful water in your home and garden.
Swap your sprinkler for a watering can
Forget the sprinkler this summer - these can use up to whopping 1,000 litres of water in just one hour. That’s more water than a family of four uses in two whole days! A watering can will do the job just fine and it's a great way to save water.
Cool down with a shower instead of a bath
There's no better way to cool down than a refreshing shower after a sunny day. Having a short shower instead of a bath can save tonnes of water too! Did you know that just one bath can use over 80 litres of water? By showering, you could save 40 litres every time.
Replace your hosepipe with a bucket
Cleaning the car too much of a chore? Ditch the hosepipe and you could save water - did you know using a hosepipe uses around 500 lites every 30 minutes! Fill a bucket with soapy water and use a sponge to clean it instead.
Reuse your water
To be super water efficient, you can often reuse water instead of pouring it away. Try using the water you washed your veggies in, to water your plants too.
Fill your dishwasher
Hang up those rubber gloves! Did you know that most modern dishwashers use
less water than washing up by hand? Just make sure it’s full
up before you start it.
Turn those taps off
By simply turning the tap off when brushing your teeth, you could save over six litres of water every
single minute - which is the equivalent of 35 cups of tea!
Utilise your water butt
Using a water butt in your garden is one of the easiest ways to save water. All this water would usually be lost down the drain - a large water butt could provide water for your plants during the summer months.
Always use a bowl
Don't have a dishwasher? If it's your turn to clean up after dinner (lucky you!), make sure you fill up your washing up bowl instead of letting the tap run, this can save up to 20 litres every single minute!
Fix those leaks
That niggling dripping tap or the little trickle of a leaking loo, are not only a pain, but can waste up to 5,000
litres of water every year.
