Hafren Dyfrdwy pump upgrade project improves service for customers

4th December 2018

Water company Hafren Dyfrdwy has completed a vital temporary upgrade project at its Oerog Water Treatment Works which has helped to remove air from water supplies in Cefn and Llangollen.

Engineers from the water provider acted following customer comments that they were experiencing high pressure and harmless, cloudy water coming from taps in their homes.

The £60,000 project, which took 12 weeks to complete, saw the installation of two temporary pumps at the water treatment works which have been installed ahead of a planned full upgrade of the whole works next summer.

Simon Weatherup, project manager at Hafren Dyfrdwy, said: “We want our customers to have the best possible service so we were obviously concerned after customers got in touch about how their water looked. We took a look at what the issue might’ve been and came up with a short-term fix before we get a longer term solution next year. Oerog was due for an upgrade next summer so we decided to do alter our plans and install temporary pumps to remove the problem ahead of the major works.

“It’s been a great success with the whole scheme designed, planned and completed within three months – including extensive groundworks. We’ve seen excellent feedback from customers on the improved quality of their water so it shows our approach has worked."
