Water Saving Tips Competition Terms and Conditions May 2021

1. Terms of Entry

Entry to the competition is free. Start date for entries is 07.06.2021 at 8.00am. Closing date for entries is 25.07.2021 at 00:00 (midnight). Entries will not be accepted after this time.

It is the responsibility of each entrant to ensure that they have read and abided by these terms and conditions. By submitting an entry, each entrant agrees to comply with these terms and conditions. Any entry found not to comply with these terms and conditions will be disqualified. In such instances, any prizes will be forfeited.

The competition states that to be entered into the prize draw you will need to:

  •  Upload a photo, video or drawing/design of your top tip to Facebook or Instagram
  • Include the hashtag #HDWaterSavingHero and tell us a bit about your idea/top tip in the description – don’t forget to use the hashtag as this is how we’ll find your entry!
  • Tell us your first name and age in the description
  • Tag us in the post (and follow our page if you’re not already)

The decision by HD on all matters relating to the competition is final and binding. No discussion or correspondence will be entered into.

HD reserves the right to suspend or modify the competition in whole or in part at any time without notice and without liability. HD's decision in all matters is final and binding and correspondence will not be entered into.

2. Who can enter?

The Competition is open to residents of the UK (excluding Northern Ireland), excluding those involved in Hafren Dyfrdwy’s organisation, or employees of HD and Hafren Dyfrdwy Group companies. Family and friends of Hafren Dyfrdwy staff are welcome to enter.

Entrants must be 13 years or older when entering the competition online.

Entrants under this age must be assisted by a parent / guardian to upload their entries.

Entrants under the age of 18 must, upon the request of HD, present consent of their parent/ guardian to be bound by these terms and conditions.

3. Ethical Standards

Any breach of the below ethical standards will also constitute a breach of the competition rules.

Entrants must be mindful of the welfare of animals and safe-guarding the environment and ensure that they do not do anything to injure or cause distress
to any animals or destroy their habitat in an attempt to secure an image.

Entrants must not put themselves or anyone else in danger for the purposes of taking photos for this competition.

Entrants must not submit images that are misleading, false, may cause damage to HD’s reputation, have been taken through the use of cruel or unethical practices, or in the opinion of HD are inappropriate. In such cases, the entry will be disqualified and/ or deleted and HD reserve the right to report the entrant to the applicable authorities.

Entrants must ensure to get permissions from anyone who is identifiable or are the sole feature of a photo. If a person under the age of 13 is identifiable or are the sole feature of the photo, permission must be given by the parents or guardians.

Entrants must only enter on behalf of themselves and not another person without appropriate consent.

During the competition HD have the rights to re-post all photo entries on our Instagram, Twitter and Facebook pages - if we use your photo for this purpose we will always accredit you.

Each entry must be the original work of the entrant and must not infringe the rights of any other party.

Each entrant must either be the sole owner of the copyright or have secured the written permission of the copyright owner to enter the image into the Competition and grants HD the rights to use the photo as listed below.

By entering the Competition, each entrant grants to HD a worldwide, royalty free, irrevocable, perpetual, sub-licensable and transferable licence to use their photo for the following:

  • Inclusion within any website owned by HD including but not limited to www.stwater.co.uk; severntrent.com; hdcymru.co.uk
  • Inclusion on social media sites including but not limited to, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn
  • In promotional, press and marketing materials
  • Inclusion in any marketing promotions associated with this competition or future competitions
  • The copyright in all images submitted to the Competition will remain with the copyright holder, however upon entering the competition you will automatically grant HD rights to use this photo for an unlimited time if you are chosen as one of the two (2) winners
  • Original OR raw photo files may be requested by HD, provided to HD via email or shared file sites (e.g.: dropbox etc.)

HD as the data controller, is permitted to adapt, reformat, vary and edit the photo as appropriate.

5. Judging the Competition

Judging will take place by a panel of HD employees.

Winners will be contacted by 08.08.2021 if you have not heard by this date you have not won.

The winners may be announced across HD’s social media accounts; Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and on HD’s website www.hdcymru.co.uk.

6. Competition prizes

The winners of the competition will be notified by 08.08.2021 once the judging takes place.

Winners will be asked to provide a postal address for the prizes to be sent. Prizes will be sent out within three (3) weeks of notification of a delivery address. 

There are (100) winning prize packages:

  • £200 Leisure Voucher Gift Card

If the competition winners do not respond to HD within ten (10) days of notification that they have won, HD reserves the right to withdraw them as the winner and choose an alternative winner which would have been selected at the same time, by the same judges applying the same criteria.

HD reserves the right to substitute the prize contents for prizes of an equivalent value if. The winners will not be entitled to any cash equivalent of the prizes, and the prizes must be used for personal use and cannot be sold on.

7. Liability

HD cannot be held responsible for any restrictions or issues with entering the competition, including any restrictions or issues with Facebook or Instagram at the time of posting.

Each entrant should take their own adequate measures to protect against viruses, security or any exploitation.

HD regret that they cannot accept liability for any:

  • loss or damage of any image entered into the Competition.
  • misuse of images by third parties and/or failure of entrants to comply with the Competition’s Rules. 

Nothing in this clause is intended to exclude or restrict liability for death or personal injury, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation or for any matter for which it is not permitted by law to exclude or limit, or to attempt to exclude or limit its liability.

8. Data protection

HD is a “controller” of personal data of competition entrants and is responsible for ensuring personal data is used in line with data protection laws (the General Data Protection Regulation 2016/679 (“GDPR”) and Data Protection Act 2018 (“DPA”)). 

HD will hold and process all personal data as stated in the Customer Promise.  

HD will process personal data from winning entrants only:

  • Name
  • Postal address


HD will process your personal data only for the management and administration of the Competition. In processing personal data in connection with the Competition, HD will rely on the lawful basis of consent of the entrants and the person(s) photographed and on HD’s legitimate interests in promoting its services.

Personal data will only be retained as per the retention schedule and no longer than three (3) months after sending the prize.

10. Governing Law

By entering this competition, entrants agree to be bound by these terms and conditions to the exclusion of all others.

Each clause in these terms and conditions operates separately. If any part of found by a court to be unreasonable or unenforceable the other parts will continue to apply.

These terms and conditions are governed by the law of England and Wales and are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English and Welsh courts.
